Heat has been used to heal for centuries. The great Greek “Father of Medicine”, Hippocrates, recommended hot water douches for pelvic pain 2500 years ago. More recently, The Journal Of Urology, Volume 25, No. 6, printed in 1936, contained a study from the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, which described “striking success” using heat in the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease and “uniformly good results in acutely inflamed prostates.” The devices they used, such as the Elliott Treatment Regulator, were large, primitive hot water douches that had to be administered in hospital. Due to their success, during the 1930s anal and vaginal heating devices became available and were very popular, judging by the many new patents and articles in medical journals. During those pre-antibiotic days, surgery washeating devices became available and were very popular, judging by the many new patents and articles in medical journals. During those pre-antibiotic days, surgery was avoided in 80 percent of cases, according to hospital records, certainly a better result than what we see in our knife and pill-happy age. In recent years, fortunately, the Swiss have refined these healing devices and they are now available in a small electric unit, the Delwa Star Rectal/Vaginal Heater, with a battery charger that can be set to any current, and slender, comfortable probes that can be used vaginally and anally. They cost a few hundred dollars, but are infinitely less expensive than flying to a clinic in Germany for hyperthermia.
