Fragrances

Scent, perfume, aftershave, some essential oils, incense and scented candles are laden with chemicals that make susceptible people ill. Those strong people who don’t notice any ill-effects might give a thought to those of us who are disgusted by the strong smells and sometimes made quite. Fabric softeners used in laundering are especially noxious and can cause serious allergic reactions. Speaking of offensive smells, please don’t buy scented paper goods – tissues, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.

Remember, those strong and, to many, offensive, odours are not achieved by the addition of Chanel Number 5, but by dangerous petrochemicals. It is necessary to open wrappers and give these products the sniff test at the market, to be sure. Even plastic garbage bags are not immune to this nonsense, and let us remember how these chemicals pollute our environment. Further, please shun dyed and bleached paper products. Toilet paper dyes have been shown to contribute to, or even cause, cancer of the anus. And, again, think of our precious environment when buying dyed products to ‘pretty up’ your kitchen and bath. In a properly run society, in which the multinationals do not call the shots, these dangerous, polluting and totally unnecessary products would be outlawed.
