Russell Blaylock, MD, wrote in his book, Excitotoxins, The Taste That Kills, “Cataracts are known to be related to free radical damage to the lens of the eye. Experimental studies, using chemicals that induce cataracts in rats, demonstrated that alpha-lipoic acid prevented cataract formation.” Dr Blaylock said that when the supplemented animals were examined it was found that there were significant elevations of glutathion, ascorbate and vitamin E in their lenses, indicating that alpha-lipoic acid caused their bodies to make these important substances. Vitamins C, A and D, and the herb, bilberry, all protect against cataract formation. One of the best, and by far the most economical, steps you can take to protect your eyes is to never allow your body to become dehydrated.
